Yanfeng US Automotive Interior Systems in Cottondale recently announced that they will be ramping down its operations come June 19, laying off between 60-100 of its employees.

This is in large part due to Mercedes Benz U.S. International introducing its new electric vehicle and building it in Vance.

WAW Executive Director and Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Chief Operating Officer Donny Jones said they’re doing what they can to get these people back into the workforce as soon as possible.

“We partner with the company that is laying off, and then we have other companies that are hiring, and we create a partnership between the two companies,” he said. “It says we are going to hire your employees, but we are going to allow them to finish up.”

A majority of the employees Yanfeng is laying off are assembly workers, and the hope is to transition them to a different company in the same capacity.

With many employees having about 10 years of experience, Jones said there is already talk of them having guaranteed jobs by the end of this month.

“It is something that is a great process. We are actually seeing great results,” he said. “Matter of fact, we heard from the companies that interviewed yesterday and said that they are going to try and hire every single one of them.”

One of West Alabama Works’ main objectives is to make a difference in people’s lives, Jones said.

“It’s all about helping people, and that’s what’s really a recipe for success,” he said.

For those interested in getting a job in the automotive industry, Jones said there are several upcoming outreach events.
