Western People — Tánaiste announces new jobs and €4m investment in company in Mayo

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD today (Friday 4 March 2022) announced 30 high-quality new jobs and a significant investment of €4m in Multi-Color Corporation (MCC) Castlebar.

MCC is the world’s largest premium label and packaging supplier with over 13,000 employees and 102 sites in 26 countries. MCC Castlebar is one of three sites in Ireland employing almost 300 people. The company is actively recruiting for the new positions which are mainly connected to the acquisition of cutting-edge digital technology.

MCC Castlebar specialises in print for the healthcare industry with 97% of its business in that area and is a preferred supplier for multi-nationals in the pharma/medical device sector. Their main products are multiple formats for Instructions For Use (IFU) including, folded inserts, outserts, patient information pads, log books and bound booklets. It was previously Cashin Print and was taken over by MCC in 2016.

MCC Castlebar is certified to ISO-9001 and PS-9000 which is the Pharmaceutical Packaging Materials Standard.

Speaking at the event, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar T.D. said, “This is great news from MCC, investing €4m in the Castlebar site, creating 30 new jobs for the local area. This money will go towards preparing for the future, investing in increasing capacity and new technology. I wish the team all the very best with this expansion – it’s exactly the kind of thing we are trying to bring about with our regional enterprise plans.”

Mr John Fennessy, General Manager of MCC, Castlebar, said, “This is a proud day for the entire team at MCC Castlebar and we are honoured to have the Tánaiste here to celebrate our jobs and investment announcements with us. I would like to acknowledge the support of Enterprise Ireland in helping to develop our business expansion into additional markets. I also want to pay tribute to our managers and the whole team. We have made huge strides over the last five years and look forward confidently to a bright future”.

Stephen Creaner, Executive Director, Enterprise Ireland also spoke at the MCC event, saying, “Enterprise Ireland is proud to support MCC Castlebar as it implements its ambitious growth strategy. The company has made a great contribution to the economy of the region and the addition of another 30 high-quality jobs that will flow from its significant investment in its Castlebar facility is good news for Mayo and the western region. Enterprise Ireland supports the continued expansion of MCC Castlebar’s export footprint in new and existing markets and we look forward to continuing our positive relationship with this excellent company”.

Alan Dillon TD acknowledged the contribution made to the community by MCC, saying, “After two tough years during the pandemic, the importance of this type of good news cannot be underestimated. With 30 new jobs and a multi-million euro investment in digital technology at Multi-Color Corporation Castlebar, it is a resounding vote of confidence in the future operations here. It is a testament to the hard-working and professional team here at MCC and I hope it is the start of a next chapter on the growth of this company.

I know John Fennessy as General Manager will ensure the company continues to put the best foot forward in terms of continued growth and expansion.
