Didsbury, a suburb on the outskirts of Greater Manchester, was named the most popular area for buyers looking for a new home in May. The analysis from the UK’s largest property website Rightmove looked at the local hotspots where buyers are signing up to find out first about properties coming up for sale. The property market has boomed over the past year, with more buyers looking to move away from city centres towards more suburban spots.

The average house price in the UK currently stands at £261,221, according to Halifax.

The majority of sales in Didsbury during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £423,559.

Flats sold for an average of £249,416, with terraced properties fetching £388,295.

Overall, sold prices in Didsbury over the last year increased by 12 percent compared to the previous year.

Sold prices were also six percent higher compared to the 2018 peak of £362,396.

What can you buy in Didsbury?

Didsbury offers a wide range of property types for buyers from Victorian mansion apartments, to period conversions and stylish, modern flats.

Rob Kennedy, Managing Director of Philip James Kennedy in Didsbury Village said in May that Didsbury village has a lot of Victorian properties.

He explained: “Built within the backdrop of wealthy merchant mansion homes and exclusive conservation areas, Didsbury offers a wide variety of exclusive properties with early Victorian cottages; late Victorian terraces and traditional semi’s through to ‘Arts and Crafts’ detached family homes and futuristic apartment and townhouse developments.

“Fashionable West Didsbury village consists of predominantly late Victorian terrace properties arranged around irrepressible Burton Road within family sized villas, mansion terraces, and sought after modern and converted luxury apartment developments.”

What is there to do in Didsbury?

Being situated close to Manchester, there’s a lot to do right on your doorstep.

However, if you really want to embrace the local area, then you don’t have to wander far to enjoy the Didsbury’s stunning backdrop.

Fletcher Moss park and Parsonage Gardens will give residents the chance to enjoy both the local wildlife and some beautiful botanical scenery.

On the last Sunday of every month, you can also enjoy the Makers Markets.

They’re located in West Didsbury on Burton Road and are home to some quirky stalls and delicious local produce.

You will find everything from local pipes to fair-trade and eco-friendly clothes, unique artwork and yummy doughnuts.

There’s sometimes entertainment from local artists and DJs too.

Mr Kennedy also said there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants in the area.

He said: “Both villages are geographically small but have beautiful parks, outstanding educational establishments, specialist food shops, a well-established café culture, upmarket bars and award winning restaurants.”

What is the nearest city/town to Didsbury?

Stockport, a large town in Greater Manchester, is a 12-minute drive from Didsbury and a 20-minute train.

The large town is just seven miles southeast of Manchester city centre and is the largest town in the metropolitan borough.

The town was the home of the nation’s hatting industry in the 19th century and has the only dedicated hatting museum.

There’s plenty of beautiful architecture to admire including over 380 listed buildings, six ancient monuments and one of the most iconic viaducts in the UK.

The UK’s only remaining super cinema and variety theatre is also located in Stockport.

The Merseyway Shopping Centre offers a wide variety of clothes, beauty, shoes and electronics shops.

Didsbury is also less than 20 minutes away from central Manchester by car and 18 minutes by train.

What are the schools like in Didsbury?

Gareth Yates, Local Property Expert for Purplebricks said Manchester “has a little bit of something for everyone” including great schools.

He said: “It attracts families due to the excellent schools, especially considering we still have the Grammar school system.”

There are 10 schools near Didsbury, Manchester that have been rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted including primary and secondary schools.

What are transport links like in Didsbury?

Manchester has a circular motorway network, an ever expanding Metrolink system and strong bus networks and cycle routes.

Didsbury is around two and a half hours by train from central London.

A train from Stockport to London Euston takes just under two hours.

Didsbury to Liverpool takes just over an hour, while Didsbury to Sheffield takes around one hour by train.

Manchester Airport is a 10-minute drive away from Didsbury.
